Windows 8 Enterprise Evaluation Activation Error Code 0xC004C032 “The activation server reported that new time based activation not available.”

UPDATE 16:40 EDT (Eastern Daylight Savings Time) – I just tried it again… and it worked! Looks like it must have been a problem with the Microsoft Activation Servers after all. Hope it works for you!

A lunchtime bug for which I haven’t yet found a solution and am among (a very few) others who are reporting it elsewhere.

After having downloaded the Windows 8 Enterprise Evaluation from the Microsoft TechNet site, it installed fine and shows Build 9200 (which is the RTM version) on the desktop bottom right.

Windows Updates also worked fine, installing the cumulative update announced a couple of days ago.

The fun part is that the activation doesn’t work – at all. There was no activation request during the installation or initial configuration, and yet the Action Center icon complains that Windows should be activated. There’s no product key to enter, since it’s embedded in the download.

When trying to activate Windows from the Control Panel, it errors with the error code 0xC004C032 and description “The activation server reported that new time based activation not available.” Here’s a screenshot:

Yes, my time zone and time are correctly set… (as a few others reported in a few forums online)…

Is it simply a case of Microsoft’s activation servers failing, or is there something wrong with the install ISO files since yesterday? I’ll share findings when I find a solution or workaround.

In the meantime, please share in the comments below if you’re also getting this message and/or if you have ideas or questions.

Side note! Windows 8 is now available for pre-order from the Microsoft Store – $69.99 for Windows 8 Pro, shipping on October 26th!
