Lunchtime Deal: Seagate Backup Plus 3TB External USB 3.0 hard drive for $106.99 shipped – perfect for backups or shared storage

seagate-3tb-backup-plusOK, just before I eat my garlic pork tongue cold cuts for lunch 🙂 … spotted an excellent deal at Amazon Canada for the Seagate 3TB Backup Plus external USB 3 hard drive at $106.99 shipped.

So, working in IT, I can never tell users (and myself) often enough to always backup your data – somewhere, but just do it. Data recovery is expensive, painful and not always successful.

A few reasons I like this drive – especially at this price:

  1. Fast performance – if you have a recent computer with a USB 3.0 port it will make your data transfers much faster than the previous USB 2 spec. The drive is backwards compatible though, so you could still use it.
  2. The drive case is detachable from the base which has a standard SATA connector so you can use it with any standard SATA drive and benefit from quick USB access…
  3. From quick research I did, the actual drive inside appears to be a pretty high performance Seagate Barracuda ST3000DM001 drive – a 7200 rpm, 6Gbps SATA model with 64MB cache – the bare drive itself sells for $110-120+ on most Canadian sites!
  4. Solid reviews on both &, as well as around the web.

If ever you want to take out the hard drive inside the case to use it inside your PC, it’s also easily done (but probably voids the warranty) it’s easily done as shown in the video below.
